Our Model
One integrated platform, deployed step by step
Orora is built as a single coordinated system, not a collection of disconnected ventures. Feed feeds poultry, poultry anchors inclusion, and animal health, training and data hold the whole chain to one standard — sequenced deliberately, with poultry as the immediate anchor.
- Feed-led
- Poultry-anchored
- Vertically integrated
- Farmer-inclusive

Why integration
Most livestock failures in our market are not about effort — they are about broken links in the chain. Feed quality is inconsistent, day-old chicks are unreliable, veterinary inputs are uncertified, and farmers have no guaranteed market for what they raise. Each weak link compounds the next, and good producers still lose money.
Orora's answer is to own and coordinate the links that matter, then bring farmers into a chain that already works. We operate from installed industrial assets at the Ex-ALCOVIT site in Bujumbura, and we sequence the build deliberately — proving each component commercially before extending it — so that growth rests on results rather than promises.
The components of the value chain
Nine interlocking parts of one platform. Each is commercially useful on its own; together they form an integrated model that holds quality from grain to market.
Feed production
The Ex-ALCOVIT industrial feed mill, rehabilitated and operated to produce quality-controlled compound feed for poultry, ruminants and fish. Reliable feed is the backbone of every other link in the chain.
→Day-old chicks & hatchery direction
Securing a dependable supply of healthy day-old chicks is the next priority in the poultry chain, with a hatchery capability the natural direction of travel — reducing the unreliable sourcing that undermines smallholder flocks today.
→Broilers
Modern broiler production raised with biosecurity, veterinary supervision and animal welfare — supplying the market with quality poultry meat and serving as a working reference for the Orora standard.
→Layers & eggs
Modern layer flocks producing table eggs under the same biosecurity and welfare protocols, contributing affordable animal protein and a steady commercial complement to broiler production.
→Veterinary inputs & animal health
Emerging veterinary and animal-health services — vaccines, protocols and supervision — to improve flock health and reduce reliance on uncertified inputs across our own sites and partner farms.
→Farmer training
Structured training and extension that transfer the Orora standard — housing, biosecurity, feeding, husbandry and recordkeeping — so producers run professional, profitable flocks rather than improvised ones.
→Franchise farms
Under a Build, Supply, Operate approach, Orora builds the farm, supplies the inputs and operates it to the Orora standard for landowners and investors — turning land and capital into a professionally run poultry enterprise.
→Aggregation & logistics
Coordinated input delivery and structured offtake connect every site to the market — moving feed and chicks out and finished birds and eggs in, so producers are never stranded without supply or a buyer.
→Data systems
Production, animal-health and quality data tie the platform together — enabling traceability, performance benchmarking, transparent monitoring and the disciplined decision-making that institutional partners expect.
→How the pieces connect
Read the model as a flow: feed makes poultry possible, poultry anchors farmer inclusion, and the supporting systems keep every link to one standard.
- 1
1 · Feed
It starts at the mill. Quality-controlled compound feed produced at Ex-ALCOVIT gives every downstream flock — our own and our partners' — a consistent, productive foundation, and replaces unreliable or imported feed.
- 2
2 · Poultry
Reliable feed plus healthy day-old chicks, veterinary supervision and modern housing turn into productive broilers and layers. Our sites operate commercially and double as a reference and training ground for the standard.
- 3
3 · Inclusion
With a proven chain in place, farmers join through training, inputs, animal-health support and franchise farms — as active commercial partners. Aggregation, logistics and data then connect their production to structured, reliable offtake and one transparent standard.
Sequenced on purpose — poultry first
We do not try to switch on every value chain at once. Poultry is the immediate anchor because it is where reliable feed, animal health, training and market access combine fastest into a working, profitable system — and where smallholders can be included with the most confidence.
Once the poultry anchor is proven, adjacent value chains follow in sequence. Emerging veterinary and animal-health services deepen first, and further chains such as cuniculture (rabbit farming) and others are treated as future direction — built on demonstrated results, never promised ahead of proof.
- Poultry as the proven anchor
- Veterinary and animal health deepening alongside
- Further value chains as future direction, results first

What integration delivers
A commercial platform with genuine national relevance — development-oriented, without charity framing.
Consistent quality
Owning the critical links lets us hold one standard from grain to finished bird, instead of inheriting the weakest input in the chain.
Predictable economics
Reliable feed, healthy stock and structured offtake give producers the predictability that makes poultry genuinely bankable.
Real inclusion
Farmers enter a chain that already works and participate as active commercial partners — with attention to women and youth — not as passive beneficiaries.
Import substitution
Restoring local feed and poultry production reduces dependence on imported feed, concentrates and protein.
Traceability & trust
Data systems make production transparent and traceable, meeting the monitoring expectations of government and development-finance partners.
Disciplined growth
A sequenced build lets each component prove itself commercially before it scales, so expansion rests on results.
An integrated model, open to partners
Because the platform is integrated, there are many ways to plug in — as a feed buyer, a poultry farmer, a franchise investor, an input supplier, a distributor, or an institution looking for a credible private-sector anchor for food-system transformation.
Tell us where you sit in the chain and we will show you the most direct way to work with Orora.
Put the model to work
Whether you want a professionally built franchise farm or a first conversation about working together, our team is ready.
